Suspects Arrested for Two Gas Station Robberies

San Rafael, CA – San Rafael Police arrested Leonardo Geovanni Flores, a 21 year old Fairfax resident, and Calvin Orlando Franklin, a 30 year old San Anselmo resident, after they committed two separate robberies at two separate San Rafael gas stations.

On 08/04/2017, at 5:33 AM, SRPD received a report of a theft of cigarettes at a gas station located at Second Street and Irwin Street on the east end of San Rafael’s Downtown.  Officers obtained preliminary information that two suspects had entered into the gas station convenience store, threatened and scared the clerk, and stole several packs of cigarettes and then fled the scene.

At 6:58 AM, SRPD received a 911 call from a gas station located Del Presidio Boulevard and Las Gallinas Avenue reporting that two suspects had robbed the convenience store of cigarettes.  During the commission of the robbery, both suspects physically assaulted the clerk, who was not seriously injured.

Several witnesses remained at the scene and provided police with a description of the suspects and their vehicle.  One witness was able to obtain a photograph of the suspects as they were fleeing the scene which included the license plate of the suspect vehicle.  The information was immediately broadcast to all Marin County Law Enforcement Agencies.

Once the all-points bulletin (APB) broadcast was made, two Fairfax Police Officers remembered the suspects and their vehicle from a traffic enforcement stop that occurred the previous day.  Fairfax Police contacted SRPD and provided the identities of the suspects and they were positively matched to the video surveillance images obtained from both gas stations.

Fairfax Police began looking for the suspects and the vehicle and located them in the unit block of Park Road in Fairfax.  Fairfax Police stopped the vehicle and SRPD officers were sent to assist with the traffic stop and apprehension.

Leonardo Geovanni Flores was arrested for two counts of robbery and Calvin Orlando Franklin was arrested for two counts of robbery with an additional charge of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.  Both were booked into the Marin County Jail.

The San Rafael Police Department would like to extend its appreciation to the witnesses who remained at the scene and to the Fairfax Police Department for its assistance in apprehending these two suspects.

Anyone with information about this crime is asked to call San Rafael Police at (415) 485-3000. Tips can also be made online at http://www.srpd.org/tips.
