San Rafael Police Arrest Parolee with Loaded Firearm

On August 7, 2017 at approximately 8:45 p.m. Officer Elisha Adams was on patrol in the area of Canal and Novato Streets when he saw a male subject he recognized as Jorge Martinez.  As Officer Adams approached Martinez’s location, Martinez turned away and attempted to avoid the officer.

Officer Adams knew Martinez was on parole and subject to warrantless search and seizure. Officer Adams got out of his patrol car and called for Martinez to stop. Martinez ignored the command, fleeing on foot instead.

Martinez ran into an apartment complex in the 100 block of Belvedere Street. Upon reaching a fence to the rear of the complex, Martinez drew a black revolver pistol from his waist band. While facing away from the officer, Martinez raised the pistol up over his shoulders and tossed it over a fence into the rear yard of an apartment.

Martinez proceeded to run again and attempted to jump over a fence. Officer Adams again ordered him to stop, at which point Martinez complied. Martinez was taken into custody without further incident. The pistol was recovered and found to be loaded.

Jorge Luis Martinez, 25 years old, of San Rafael was booked at the Marin County Jail for being a felon in possession of firearm, violation of parole, resisting arrest and other weapons related offenses. He is being held on a state parole hold.
