Woman Vandalizes Downtown Business and Brandishes Knife at Officers

San Rafael, CA – On Saturday, 07/21/18, Nadia Silvershine, a 57-year-old San Rafael resident, was arrested in Downtown San Rafael for felony vandalism, brandishing a knife at officers, and obstructing an officer.

At 8:36 PM, SRPD began receiving 911 calls about a woman who was yelling and screaming in Downtown San Rafael.  The woman was reported to have broken out a window to a business in the 1300 block of Fourth Street.  The woman’s identity was not immediately known and a description was broadcast to responding officers.

Officers arrived in the area and began searching for Silvershine who had fled prior to the officers’ arrival.  An investigation was conducted and it was determined that the Silvershine had broken out one window to a downtown business with a wine bottle and a cooking pot and attempted to break out another.  The damage was estimated to cost $500.00.

Several minutes later, another call was received that Silvershine was in the 1100 block of Fourth Street and was still yelling and screaming.  Officer immediately located her on the sidewalk and approached her.  Silvershine pulled out a 2 ½ inch folding knife and demanded that officers kill her.

Officers employed de-escalation techniques and ordered Silvershine several times to drop the knife and she eventually complied. Officers were able to take the woman into custody without incident or injury.

Silvershine was booked into the Marin County Jail for Penal Code 594(b)(1) – Felony Vandalism, Penal Code 417(a)(1) – Brandishing a Knife, and Penal Code 148(a)(1) – Obstructing a Peace Officer.

Anyone with information about this crime is asked to call San Rafael Police at (415) 485-3000. Tips can also be made online at http://www.srpd.org/tips.
