2020 Camp Chance Canceled due to Covid19 Pandemic
San Rafael, CA – In light of the Covid-19 pandemic, it is with a heavy heart that we announce the cancelation of the 2020 edition of Camp Chance. This decision was made out of an abundance of caution, and with the highest concern for the health and well being of our campers, police officers, counselors and professional staff.
Camp Chance is a five-day residential summer camp that brings peace officers and children together to build positive relationships. Camp Chance offers kids a structured camping and counseling experience with a mix of challenging physical, mental, and emotional activities. Over 1100 middle school youth have benefited from this program since it began in 1999.
Marin Law Enforcement join with San Rafael police officers to participate with the kids in all the activities throughout the week. This informal and personal contact with police personnel has proven to be a big win-win for the kids, police and community.
Camp Chance was created by the San Rafael Police Department in collaboration with the Marin County Sheriff’s Office and the Marin County Office of Education. The Camp Chance program is completely funded by donations from private citizens, local businesses and foundations.
We are fully committed to hosting Camp Chance next year. All past and future donations received will be rolled over for Camp Chance 2021. We thank you for your continuous support.
