TELEPHONE REASSURANCE PROGRAM
What is this telephone reassurance program?
The Telephone Reassurance Program is a free telephone check-in serving elders, disabled, and housebound individuals in Marin County. Registered users will be called three mornings a week to ascertain how they are doing and to offer them a “Good Morning” greeting to start off their day. If the volunteer caller fails to receive an answer after three attempts are made, a predetermined contact person will be notified to investigate further.
The goal of this program is to provide twice weekly phone calls to people who live alone and may be elderly, housebound, disabled, or at-risk, to assure their welfare.
This service is provided by Episcopal Senior Communities, in partnership with Whistlestop and the Novato Independent Elders.
How does it work?
Three times per week, registered clients receive a morning phone call from a trained volunteer. Calls are usually brief in duration, with enough time to determine the client’s welfare. If the volunteer fails to receive an answer after three calls are placed throughout the course of the morning, a predetermined contact person will be notified to investigate further. The Client Registration Form enables the program to be aware of special problems or illnesses; medications (if any); the names and phone numbers of neighbors, doctors, and family members; and the location of a key to the home.
Is there a cost?
This service is free and is provided as in partnership with Whistlestop, Novato Independent Elders. Additional Funding for this program, at least in part, is made available by the Older Americans Act, administered locally by the Marin Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Aging and Adult Services. Donations are always accepted to help defray the operating costs. HOW do I register? If you wish to participate in the program, you can register yourself, a friend, or a relative, by completing a confidential Client Registration Form.
