One Vehicle, Two Arrested for DUI

San Rafael, CA – On Friday, 07/20/18, Casildo Cialan-Cahuex, a 41-year-old San Rafael resident, and Demesio Orozco-Cahuex, a 35-year-old San Rafael resident, were both arrested for driving under the influence of an alcoholic beverage after one crashed the car they were in and the other then drove it away from the scene.

At 8:58 PM, SRPD received a call that a collision had just occurred in the 500 block of Canal Street.  Witnesses had reported that a vehicle had collided into a parked car and was stuck against the parked car and a curb.  Witnesses also reported that the driver was revving the engine in an attempt to break free and flee the scene.

As officers were responding, Cialin-Cahuex exited from the driver’s seat and switched seats with the passenger Orozco-Cahuex.  Orozco-Cahuex then got into the driver’s seat and was able to get the vehicle to break free from where it had crashed.

Orozco-Cahuex drove from the scene of the collision and was spotted by arriving officers who stopped the vehicle at the dead-end of the 600 block of Canal Street.  Orozco-Cahuez attempted to make a U-turn away from officers and was blocked in by police cars.

Officers conducted an investigation and determined that both Cialin-Cahuex and Orozco-Cahuex were witnessed driving the vehicle and both appeared very intoxicated.  Field sobriety tests were conducted on both and it was determined that Cialin-Cahuex and Orozco-Cahuex both had blood alcohol levels that were over three times the legal limit of 0.08%.  Neither Cialin-Cahuex nor Orozco-Cahuex were injured in the crash.

Cialin-Cahuex and Orozco-Cahuex were arrested for Vehicle Code 23152(a) – Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol and Vehicle Code 23152(b) – Driving Under the Influence with a Blood Alcohol Content Greater than 0.08%.  Both were booked into the Marin County Jail.
