Suspect Arrested for Human Trafficking

On April 19, 2019 at 2:30 am, Corporal Lilah Gavlick was on patrol in the 700 block of East Francisco Blvd., San Rafael when she noticed a silver Mercedes driving through the parking lot of a local motel.  Corporal Gavlick saw that the Mercedes did not have a front license plate as required by the California Vehicle Code.

Corporal Gavlick conducted a traffic enforcement stop in the area of Bellam Blvd. and the 580 eastbound on-ramp.  When she made contact at the vehicle, she saw that it was occupied by three males and one female.  She noticed that the female who was in the back seat appeared to be passed out and was initially unresponsive.  Corporal Gavlick noticed the female was wearing a short dress and had no shoes on.

Corporal Gavlick was concerned for the safety of the female in the back seat and decided to investigate further.  The female eventually became responsive and identified herself as a 17 year old resident of Modesto.  Corporal Gavlick is a recognized expert in human trafficking and routinely represents the City of San Rafael in the community to discuss human trafficking.  Based on her training and experience, Corporal Gavlick became concerned that the 17 year old could be a victim of human trafficking.

The driver of the vehicle, Jayvon Gunn, was interviewed by Corporal Gavlick and made some admissions for her to believe that he was possibly trafficking the 17 year old victim.  She continued her investigation and developed probable cause to arrest Gunn for Human Trafficking and Pimping.

At the police department, the 17 year old victim was interviewed and released to a family member.  She was provided with information about human trafficking and given resources to contact in the future.

Gunn was arrested and booked the Marin County Jail for Human Trafficking and Pimping.
