Suspect Arrested for DUI and Assault on Officers

On Monday, April 29th at approximately 3:00 pm, a concerned citizen called the San Rafael Police Department to report a DUI driver in the parking lot of the San Rafael Yacht Harbor, 557 East Francisco Blvd., San Rafael.  SRPD Officers responded to the area and located Gerald Anthony Sadler, a 52-year-old resident of San Pablo, inside his vehicle.  Based on their initial observations, officers began an investigation for driving under the influence of alcohol.

Sadler showed signs and symptoms of intoxication and he performed a series of Field Sobriety Tests (FST’s) in an unsatisfactory manner.  Due to his performance on the FST’s and his physical condition, Officers attempted to place Sadler into custody for DUI.

While taking Sadler into custody, he became violent, striking officers while trying to get back to his vehicle.  Sadler was able to make it back to his vehicle and put his vehicle in drive.  Sadler knocked one officer to the ground and ran over the foot and dragged the other officer a short distance.

Sadler collided into another occupied car, disabling both vehicles. Sadler ran from the scene with both injured SRPD officers chasing closely behind.  Sadler gave up after a short foot pursuit and was taken into custody without further incident.

Sadler was booked into the Marin County Jail for Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Hit and Run, DUI, Resisting Arrest, Violation of Probation, Driving without an ignition interlock as required and Driving on a Suspended License.

The SRPD Officers who were injured making the arrest were taken to the hospital and released after receiving treatment.
