Suspects Arrested for Attempted Murder

On July 22, 2021, at 11:05 am, the San Rafael Police Department received a 911 call about a possible shooting on Novato Street in San Rafael.   San Rafael Police Officers went to the location and found a person lying in the street who had been shot in the back.  The victim was conscious and was transported by San Rafael Fire to a local hospital.  SRPD Detectives and members of the San Rafael CSI Team responded to the scene to assist the patrol units in the investigation.

The investigation revealed that two subjects were walking on Novato Street when they were confronted by two suspects.  One of the suspects pulled out a handgun which caused the two victims to turn around and leave the area.  Both suspects followed the two victims around a building on Novato Street.  The suspect with the handgun called out the victim’s name and fired two rounds from his handgun.  One of the rounds struck the victim in his back and the other round fired missed the other victim.  The suspects fled the scene and took refuge in an apartment.  The resident of the apartment attempted to conceal the suspects and assisted them in trying to conceal evidence.

Through the continuing investigation, the location of the three suspects was discovered and SRPD units with the assistance of the Marin County Sheriff’s Department, the California Highway Patrol and the Central Marin Police Authority surrounded the apartment building.  Multiple phone calls were made into the residence and contact was eventually made with the suspects.  After a brief discussion, all three suspects came out of the apartment and were arrested without incident.

The suspects arrested were:

Edwin Mazariegos Rodriguez, a 22-year-old resident of San Rafael

Yordan Gonzalez Acevedo, an 18-year-old resident of San Rafael

Ivan Pech Pinzon, a 35-year-old resident of San Rafael

Rodriguez was arrested and booked for attempted murder, conspiracy to commit a crime, a felon in possession of a handgun, and for being a prohibited person in possession of ammunition.  Acevedo was arrested and booked for attempted murder and conspiracy to commit a crime.  Pinzon was arrested and booked for aiding or concealing a felon and for an outstanding warrant.
