On August 14, 2021, at about 9:50 PM, SRPD Officers were sent to a residence in the 300 block of Prospect Avenue, San Rafael on the report of a stabbing that just occurred.  The victim was placed in a vehicle and driven away from the residence but flagged down responding officers at Lincoln Avenue and Laurel Place.

Officers contacted the victim who was alert and conscious but holding a t-shirt around his neck to stop the bleeding.  Officers rendered first aid to the victim and saw that he had about a 5” laceration in his neck, and two lacerations on the back of his left arm.  The San Rafael Fire Department responded to the scene, provided aid to the victim, and transported him to a local hospital.

Prior to being transported to the hospital, the victim told SRPD Officers that he attended a party in the 300 block of Prospect Avenue, San Rafael.  He said that he had only been at the party for few minutes when a fight broke out.  He said that he did not know why the fight broke out but that during the fight someone stabbed him in the neck.  He was not able to provide any further information.

SRPD Detectives took over the investigation and conducted numerous interviews, collected physical evidence, and obtained video evidence.  Based on their investigation, a search warrant was obtained for a residence in the 100 block of Prospect Avenue, San Rafael.  The search warrant was obtained to locate physical evidence and video evidence connecting the suspect to this case.

Based on all the evidence obtained in this case, SRPD Detectives had probable cause to arrest a juvenile suspect for the stabbing.  On August 19, 2021, at about 8:30 AM, the suspect was located in the area of Mission and Tamalpais in San Rafael and was arrested.  He was transported to SRPD where he was interviewed then subsequently booked for 245(a)(1) PC- Assault with a Deadly Weapon.  The suspect is a 17-year-old male who is a resident of San Rafael.
