Homicide Suspect Convicted of Murder from May 2021 Case
San Rafael, CA - On 02/24/2023, Miguel Jimenez Alejandre has been convicted of first-degree murder in Marin County Superior Court for killing his work supervisor.
On May 12, 2021, the San Rafael Police Department received a phone call from a landscaping company in Concord, CA, reporting one of their employees, David Nunez Sanchez, failed to come home after working on a job in San Rafael on May 11, 2021.
SRPD Officers responded to the area of North Avenue, which was the last known job site where Sanchez had been working. SRPD Officers and an employee had located Sanchez’s work truck at the scene. Officers began to search the surrounding area for Nunez Sanchez. The search resulted in locating Nunez Sanchez, who was deceased and deliberately buried under brush and branches.
SRPD Detectives went to Concord to interview the three employees who were at the job site on May 11, 2021. The detectives learned that Nunez Sanchez was the supervisor of the work crew, and he drove a separate vehicle to the job site apart from the three employees. All three employees worked with Nunez Sanchez that morning, but when they finished the job, they all told Detectives that when they left the job site, they saw Nunez Sanchez’s work truck still at the San Rafael job site. They knew he was supposed to be in Oakland at another job but assumed he was still working the San Rafael job site despite not seeing him when they left.
One of the employees, Miguel Jimenez Alejandre, a 33-year-old Baypoint resident, was questioned at length regarding his interaction with Nunez Sanchez that morning. After an extensive interview, Alejandre confessed to the Detectives that he killed Nunez Sanchez. Out of respect for Nunez Sanchez’s family, the manner of death and motive will not be released.
On May 12, 2021, Alejandre was arrested and booked into the Marin County Jail. SRPD Detectives forwarded a case to the Marin County District Attorney’s Office, charging Alejandre with the murder of Nunez Sanchez.
After several weeks of court testimony in front of a Marin County Superior Court jury, Alejandre was found guilty of first-degree murder.
Although nothing will be able to fill the void of this senseless crime, SRPD Detectives have been determined to pursue justice for the family of Nunez Sanchez.
Alejandre is expected to be sentenced at a future court appearance.
