Five Suspects Arrested in Connection with Violent Crime Spree
San Rafael, CA – On Tuesday evening, 06/25/2024, The San Rafael Police responded to several emergency calls about a group of male suspects who were carrying out acts of violence in San Rafael’s Canal Neighborhood and along the Starkweather Shoreline Park/San Francisco Bay Trail. Officers arrested the following:
Widman Rolando Lopez-Barrios - a 22-year-old San Rafael resident
Danny Waldemar Lopez-Deleon – a 22-year-old San Rafael resident
Juan Ramirez-Ortiz – an 18-year-old San Rafael resident
Maguiver Ostavio Vicente - an 18-year-old San Rafael resident
Victor Gilberto Lopez-Esteban, a 19-year-old San Rafael resident
All five were arrested on various criminal violations that included felony robbery, felony assault with a deadly weapon (not a firearm), and conspiracy to commit a criminal offense. The five suspects were booked into the Marin County Jail.
Starting just before 5:30 PM, SRPD Dispatch began receiving multiple 9-1-1 calls about a group of male suspects who were vandalizing cars and physically fighting in the area of Bahia Way and Canal Street. Officers were immediately dispatched to the area.
While officers were responding, additional 9-1-1 calls were received, one of which reported that a group of male suspects had assaulted victims with a wood block and baseball bat and then stole a set of car keys.
Officers began investigating and were given detailed descriptions of the suspects involved, including their last known travel directions. Investigating officers learned that the suspects approached residents at a carport in the unit block of Canal Street and demanded money and alcohol. The residents refused to cooperate and were then attacked with a wood block and a baseball bat. When the suspects fled, they stole car keys and threatened to return. The victims attempted to get their keys back and were again attacked. The victims retreated, and the suspects fled the area. Fortunately, neither victim who had been assaulted required hospitalization. Officers began to surround the area to search for the suspects.
At 6:24 PM, SRPD Dispatch began receiving calls about the suspects at the Target Store on Shoreline Parkway in San Rafael. Target security employees reported that five male suspects were in the store and threatening to attack and harm customers.
While officers were on the way, another 9-1-1 call was received about a victim who had been assaulted with a baseball bat on the Starkweather Shoreline Park/San Francisco Bay Trail. Officers located the victim, who had an apparent head injury, began providing first aid, and summoned San Rafael Fire paramedics.
During the investigation into the assault, it was determined that four to five suspects had approached a group of individuals on the path and demanded alcohol. When the suspects were refused, the victim was assaulted with a baseball bat. One of the suspects then stole a cellular phone. The victim required hospitalization for non-life-threatening injuries and was transported by ambulance.
At the same time, another officer searching for the suspects from the previous incident located the suspects exiting the trail onto Baypoint Drive. The suspects were all detained. Due to a thorough investigation, the suspects were positively identified as being involved in both cases and arrested without incident.
All five suspects were booked into the Marin County Jail.
Widman Rolando Lopez-Barrios was charged with assault with a deadly weapon, robbery, and two counts of conspiracy to commit a criminal offense.
Danny Waldemar Lopez-Deleon was charged with two counts of conspiracy to commit a criminal offense.
