1 Arrested and 5 Citations Issued at San Rafael DUI Checkpoint

San Rafael, CA - On Friday, January 24th, 2025, one person was arrested for driving under the influence, one driver was notified of a driver’s license suspension for DUI, and five others were cited and released for being unlicensed during the DUI and driver’s license checkpoint operation held in San Rafael.  The DUI checkpoint was held on Lincoln Avenue at Grand Avenue from 6:00 P.M. to 11:30 P.M.

SRPD screened 484 cars during the five-hour-long DUI and driver’s license checkpoint. Six of those vehicles were stopped either to determine whether the drivers had had too much to drink or to determine whether they were properly licensed.

DUI checkpoint locations are determined based on reported incidents of impaired driving-related crashes.  The primary purpose of DUI checkpoints is to promote public safety by taking suspected impaired drivers off the roads.

The San Rafael Police Department is planning additional DUI and driver’s license checkpoints throughout the year.

Funding for this checkpoint was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
