San Rafael Police Department Investigates Attempt Homicide
San Rafael, CA – On April 19, 2021, at approximately 10:23 PM, San Rafael Police Department Officers responded to the 500 block of Canal Street to a call of two female victims that were severely assaulted. Upon arrival, the officers located a 46-year-old female victim and her 12-year-old daughter inside the residence.
The mother stated that their roommate, Ermidio Diaz, attacked her and her daughter with an ax. She suffered major stab wounds and lacerations to her upper body. She also lost parts of her fingers while shielding her daughter and herself. The daughter suffered a major laceration to her right eye, the bridge of her nose, and several impact wounds to her right arm and lower right abdomen. San Rafael Fire Department paramedics provided medical aid. The juvenile was airlifted to Oakland Children’s Hospital for medical treatment and has been undergoing surgery. Her mother is at Marin General Hospital and she is listed in stable condition.
The suspect was taken into custody by responding officers without incident. The suspect was booked for attempted homicide, assault with a deadly weapon, assault causing great bodily injury, mayhem, and child endangerment resulting in great bodily injury. He is being held without bail. There is no threat to the community, and this remains an active investigation.
