Large Attendance at SRPD's First Annual Touch-A-Truck Community Event
San Rafael, CA – Close to a thousand people attended the San Rafael Police Department’s first annual Touch-A-Truck community event at Pickleweed Park in San Rafael. The event occurred on Friday, July 28, 2023, from 1:00 to 5:30 PM. The event was held in partnership with the City of San Rafael’s Park and Recreation Department, which provided the space at the park.
Touch-A-Truck is an opportunity for families and children to see, touch, explore, and learn about all types of trucks and vehicles. The Touch-A-Truck event had a cement truck, storm drain cleaning truck, tow truck, garbage truck, vintage cars, fire department ladder truck, police car, police motorcycle, school bus, and a backhoe tractor. SRPD also offered free “slush” from Amy’s Wicked Slush.
In addition to the trucks and cars on display, people also got to meet and talk with police personnel, firefighters, and the professionals driving and operating the various equipment.
Police Chief David Spiller said, “We love to see families come out and enjoy community events like this one. It’s fun to see kids of all ages come and explore the trucks, and emergency vehicles, along with meeting the hard-working professionals that serve our San Rafael Community daily.”
This event was free to the public and encouraged kids to learn about the everyday seen equipment and the professions they belong to.
Due to the enormous success of this event, SRPD has already started planning for next year’s event. We will be looking at opportunities to make it even bigger and better.
