Crime Spree Stopped with Three Juveniles Arrested

San Rafael, CA – On 08/30/23, SRPD officers arrested three juveniles involved in a brief crime spree, which included two robberies and a vehicle pursuit.  The three juvenile suspects were booked into Marin County Juvenile Hall on criminal charges, including felony robbery.

Just after 8:30 AM, the San Rafael Police Department received a report from Terra Linda High School officials that a student had been assaulted in the school parking lot just before classes started.  School officials had brought the juvenile victim to the office. Officers worked with school officials to investigate the incident.  It was learned that the suspects, who were possibly juveniles, jumped out of a white Chevrolet Suburban and physically assaulted the victim.  The suspects then got back into the vehicle and fled.  At the time, it appeared this was an isolated incident and school officials provided identification information about who they believed was involved.  Later, during an additional police follow-up investigation it was learned that the suspects also robbed the victim during the altercation.

Around 10:00 AM, SRPD received two separate calls from witnesses reporting that they had observed the same white Chevrolet Suburban driving around Terra Linda.  One of the calls received was from paramedics at Terra Linda Kaiser Hospital.  The witnesses reported that the occupants were wearing ski masks.

Just before 10:45 AM, SRPD received a report that another juvenile victim had been attacked and robbed in the 300 block of Nova Albion Way.  The victim had been injured during the incident.

While officers were investigating these incidents and checking the surrounding area, the vehicle was observed stopped near Munson Park.  Officers attempted to approach and detain the vehicle, and it sped away. Officers noticed that the suspects in the vehicle were still wearing ski masks.

Another officer nearby intercepted the suspect vehicle as it drove from Freitas Parkway to the southbound US-101 freeway.  The officer followed the vehicle while coordinating additional resources to make a safe and effective car stop.  While following the vehicle, it exited the Lincoln Avenue off-ramp, ran a red light, and proceeded southbound Lincoln Avenue toward Downtown San Rafael.

The officer following the suspects attempted to stop the vehicle, and a vehicle pursuit began.  Concerned for the public’s safety, officers set up on Lincoln Avenue at the intersection with Mission Avenue in preparation to intercept the suspect vehicle and prevent it from getting into the congested downtown area.  As the pursued suspect vehicle approached the awaiting officers at the intersection, they slowed and came to a stop.

Once the vehicle was stopped, three suspects were taken into custody without incident.  All three suspects were determined to be juveniles.  Lincoln Avenue between Mission Avenue and Laurel Place was briefly shut down during the car stop.

Incident to the arrest, officers searched the vehicle and located several ski masks and a large hunting knife.  Officers were also able to recover property that had been stolen from the involved victims.

The suspects were booked into Marin County Juvenile Hall with charges that included felony robbery, felony evading with wanton disregard for public safety, battery with serious bodily injury, and conspiring to commit a crime.

The identity of the suspects will not be released since they are juveniles and under the age of 18.

Anyone with information about this crime is asked to call San Rafael Police at (415) 485-3000. Tips can also be made online at http://www.srpd.org/tips.
