Three Juveniles Arrested in Connection with Canal Neighborhood Violence
San Rafael, CA – SRPD officers who were investigating a series of violent crimes in the Canal Neighborhood located involved suspects. The suspects were detained, and a loaded handgun and brass knuckles were found in a vehicle they were occupying. The suspects were all juveniles and booked into juvenile hall on several felony charges that included felony possession of a loaded firearm, felony possession of brass knuckles, felony assault with a deadly weapon, and additional charges.
On 06/18/24, SRPD officers responded to the area of Playa Del Rey in San Rafael’s Canal Neighborhood to investigate an assault. During the investigation into the incident, it was learned that three male suspects brutally assaulted a victim with brass knuckles. Officers obtained the suspects’ description and a description of the involved vehicle. The vehicle was found using San Rafael’s automated license plate reader (ALPR) camera network, and a license plate number was obtained. Officers then began working to locate the suspects and the involved vehicle. The victim in this incident was transported to a local hospital for additional medical treatment.
Yesterday, 08/06/24, an investigating officer observed the vehicle driving on Belvedere Street. The officer monitored the vehicle and coordinated with additional officers to make contact. The vehicle stopped in the parking lot of an apartment complex in the 100 block of Belvedere Street.
During the contact, an occupant admitted to having a loaded gun in the vehicle. All three suspects were detained. Officers learned that the suspects were under the age of 18. Officers searched the vehicle and located a loaded handgun, a pair of brass knuckles, and a folding knife.
Officers were able to connect the suspects to the June 18th assault and battery case and located a video phone recording of the incident. All three suspects were arrested and booked into Marin County Juvenile Hall. The juveniles are being charged with felony assault with a deadly weapon, felony assault that caused great bodily injury, felony possession of a loaded firearm, felony carrying a concealed firearm, felony juvenile in possession of a handgun, felony possession of brass knuckles, and conspiracy to commit a crime.
